What actually is Permanent Makeup?

When I meet my clients for the first time, I am always asked..."What is Permanent Makeup and how does it work???"

It can be very confusing as there are so many different words used to describe it and as the years have gone by, new trends and methods have also contributed to making it sound more confusing that it actually is.

Permanent Makeup is a mild tattoo process where ink pigments are inserted into the top layers of our skin, either with a tiny needle or a tiny microblade tool (like we are scratching the surface with colours) and when it heals over the ink pigments remain in the skin. It is not permanent like a normal tattoo (which goes in deeper) so as our skin layers shed, our treatment area will fade.

Here at Permanent Makeup by Jo, we like to keep it simple :)

I only like to use the words Hair Strokes and Powder which are done with two different tools and are used for eyebrows, eyeliner and lip colour treatments.

Hair Strokes are carried out with a tiny microblade which we dip into the ink and then scratch into the skin to replicate eyebrow hair-stroke lines. We can use any colour ink and create any shape or size, which looks 100% natural.

Powder is carried out with a tiny needle and a machine, which inserts tiny dots of ink into the skin to create shading on eyebrows and eyeliner. We also use the powder to create lip liner, blush or full lip colour...

Just like Art...

What I love about doing permanent makeup is the ability to use these tools with the ink pigments to create something so incredible! From replicating lost eyebrow hairs, to adding dots along the lash line and even shading the lips with lost lip colour, it can bring so much joy and confidence to all of my clients.
