Why Annual Top Ups are important!
Semi Permanent makeup is a fantastic way to save time, enhance your natural features and enjoy beautifully defined brows, lips and eyeliner every day of the year. But whilst results are long- lasting, they are not permanent and that is why annual top ups are so important.
Over time, your semi permanent makeup naturally fades. Annual top ups are the best way to refresh the colour, maintain the shape and prevent further or more in-depth work having to be done.

What happens to semi permanent makeup?
Once your treatment has healed, the ink particles can shift and change.
As your skin is constantly renewing itself and factors such as sun exposure, skin treatments, skin type, medication, diet and lifestyle can all affect how long the pigment will last and how it can change.
For some, the ink particles can fade very quickly and require more maintenance than others whilst others may see a change in colour or even become patchy and more attention is required. And for some very rare skin types, the ink remains in the skin for many years.
No 1: It keeps the colour looking fresh
One of the main reasons clients choose an annual or a mid year top up is to bring the colour back to life.
It is important to remember that a colour is not just one solid colour. A colour is made up of many different colour particles and if some of those particles are lost then the original colour of the treatment will change.
If the treatment area is left too long, then it can be difficult to restore it back.
The aim here isn’t to make them look overly dark or change the shape, just add colour back into the treatment area.

No 2: It helps maintain the shape
As the coloured pigments fade, shift or leave the skin, they may do this in certain areas of the treatment area quicker than other areas, which results in an uneven looking shape.
My job is to make subtle changes in areas where needed to bring back the shape. This is particularly important for brows if the fronts or tails have been lost.
No 3: It prevents the treatment from fading
Leaving a treatment for too long can require more work to rebuild the colour, shape and definition all over again.
Keeping up with regular treatments can help preserve the colour and make appointments quicker and more cost affective.

No 4. It allows us to monitor your healed results.
As we all heal differently and every skin is completely different, it means that semi permanent makeup does not fade in the same way for everyone.
Annual top ups give us an opportunity to assess the treatment, colour retention, any shift in pigments or medical history and overall appearance. This helps us determine what your skin needs and whether any adjustments should be made and when.
"Your lifestyle can affect how long the results last."
There are many factors that can contribute to faster fading or changes, including:
Frequent sun or UV exposure
Facial treatments including micro needling, certain skincare ingredients and chemical peels.
Oily or dry skin
Regular sweating
Natural skin regeneration
Medication
This does not mean that you need to avoid these things altogether and do not stop any medication that you are taking. It simply means that your results may need refreshing or assessing more frequently.
Think of your top ups as maintenance, not a new treatment!
We always send out annual top reminders, especially at our busy times, however if you think that you are need of a top up sooner then we are always happy to assess your treatment area in person or by photo/video call.
